GumScout

The GumScout app

Read the trend, not the mirror.

Are your gums actually moving, or is it just the light? GumScout helps you find out by comparing like with like, once a month. Free for 2 check-ins, no account.

Four guided photos a month

Front, with both arches showing and the lips pulled back. Left and right, with the side teeth biting together and the cheek pulled back. And the lower front teeth close up, with the lip pulled down, because that is where recession most often shows first. A faint ghost of last month's photo sits on the camera so you line up the same way every time. Use the camera or your library.

An honest read

One clear verdict

Looks stable, Keep watching, Changing, or See your dentist. A safety layer can only raise the verdict, never lower it. A bump or pus on the gum, swelling with bleeding, or a change within weeks always ends in See your dentist. Your first check-in is a baseline, so it can never read Changing, and the app waits for a 3-month trend before it leans on a change. One month is noise: light, the angle, how far the lip is pulled back.

A timeline that stays on your phone

Every check-in is saved with its photos, read and notes. One optional reminder arrives four weeks after each check-in. Compare any two months with Pro: hold the photo to flip between then and now.

A report for your dentist

Pro makes a one-page PDF on your phone with stages, Gum Scores, signs and photos for the last 3, 6 or 12 months, plus a short neutral note written for a dentist. Show it in the chair or send it before the visit. A consistent before-and-after pair tells a dentist more than memory does.

Free and Pro

Free: 2 check-ins (a baseline and one comparison), the timeline and the guide. GumScout Pro: unlimited monthly check-ins, Gum Score trends by zone, compare any two months, and the dentist report. Pro is a yearly subscription with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, a monthly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the app and may vary by country.

Heads up

GumScout is not a dentist and is not a substitute for one. GumScout gives an AI estimate from photos. It is not a dental exam and cannot diagnose gum disease, and it can be wrong. Gums do not grow back on their own, and GumScout never recommends a treatment, product or dose. If your gums bleed on their own, there is pus or a bump on the gum, swelling, a loose tooth, pain, or a tooth that looks longer within weeks, see your dentist soon.
